Jonathan currently pursuing his Masters degree at
Michigan State University where he studies classical
saxophone with
Professor Joseph Lulloff and jazz
improvisation with Professor Deigo Rivera and Professor
Rodney Whitaker. Jonathan has been awarded
the
prestigious University Distinguished Fellowship.
Jonathan recently graduated from Central Michigan
University with high honors
earning a Bachelor of Music
Education degree. While at Central Michigan University,
Jonathan studied classical saxophone with Professor
John Nichol and jazz improvisation with Professor Rob
Smith. In 2004, Jonathan was selected as Central
Michigan Universities Presser
Scholar.
Jonathan performs with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra,
Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Lansing Symphony Big Band,
Bijou Orchestra, Central
Avenue and the Night & Day
Jazz Quartet. Jonathan is a winner of the Central Michigan University Concerto Competition (2001) and
recently won the Jack Saunders Jazz Award (2003) and the Robert Hays Jazz Award (2003). Jonathan was named an Outstanding Soloist
at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival (February, 2001, 2003) and the Elmhurst Jazz Festival (2004). Jonathan performed as soloist and in
an ensemble at the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference (University of North Texas, March, 2002) and was one of five
selected finalists in the Jazz Competition. Jonathan was a 2nd place winner in the Lansing Musicale Competition (2003). Jonathan performed
with John Nichol the Birthday Music for Sigurd Rascher by Erland von Koch at the XII World Saxophone Congress in Montreal, Canada
(July, 2000) and performed Strayhorn arranged by Professor Charles Ruggeiro at the XIII World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis, MN
(2003).
